HER NOTES ON THE EPISODE:

If you’ve kind of lost track of who you are or what you want or why you want it, today’s episode is for you. I’m excited for you to hear from today’s guest as we discuss how what we should do might actually be unhealthiest for us.

Tricia Huffman is a rock-and-roll roadie at heart. She specializes in working with people in the public eye to keep them in integrity with who they want to be while also enjoying the life that they’re living right now. A mental health and mindset expert, Tricia shares real talk with heart and encourages you to uncover who you are and claim your joy daily.

On this week’s episode of the podcast, Tricia and I talk about how to understand what you want instead of focusing on what you think you should do, the importance of compassion for yourself, and how what we want can actually be good for us. I can’t wait for you all to hear this amazing conversation and start focusing on your wants!

WHAT YOU’LL DISCOVER:

  • Tricia’s journey to self-love and the career she has now.
  • Why Tricia gave up the word “should” (and why you might want to too).
  • How often we use “should” when really we mean “want.”
  • The importance of asking ourselves “why” when we think we want something.
  • How to trust that our “wants” are good for us.
  • Why building a time to check-in with yourself every day is important.

mindlove

HOSTED BY melisa Monte

HER NOTES ON THE EPISODE:

Do you keep shoulding all over yourself?

The more I reflect on the word “should”, the more I realize that I don’t need it at all.

The word is inherently negative. It’s an active form of self-criticism. Plus it immediately takes you out of the present moment. It either sheds light on something you feel obligated to do but feel bad that you’re not, or something you feel bad about not doing in the past.

The energy of words is a powerful force. And sometimes the way we speak about a problem, about ourselves, about other people is what holds the energy that either keeps us where we are or helps us move in another direction.

And sometimes, even something as simple as a change of words can be the catalyst for opening up to things we didn’t even realize was possible.

That’s what we’re talking about today. Our guest is Tricia Huffman, aka Your Joyologist. She is a mental health and mindset expert known for sharing real talk with heart, calling you to uncover and honor who YOU are.

We Will Learn

  • How to recognize the “shoulds” that are at the root of your doubts, fears, resentment, and shame.
  • How to call out the BS stories you create and believe about yourself.
  • How to stop beating yourself up over the “should haves” and what already happened.

Awesome with alison

HOSTED BY alison faulkner

HER NOTES ON THE EPISODE:

Oooh baby! We’ve got a guest for you today!! Tricia and I wrote our books on a really similar timeline and she has been a huge support to me during that rough emotional journey! And you won’t be surprised why when you hear the title of her book: F the Shoulds. Do the Wants. Get Clear On Who You Are, What You Want, and Why You Want It. Tricia in SO MANY easy steps and stories helps you uncover WHAT YOU WANT! What you really really want! She says “Forget what you have been told about what you should do or should be and instead ask yourself, “What do I want?” You have no idea how much the shoulds are running your life, holding you back, and making you question your worth on a daily basis.” COME ON NOW! You’re going to love this episode! So let’s all stop shoulding all over ourselves and listen up!

DON’T KEEP YOUR DAY JOB

HOSTED BY CATHY HELLER

HER NOTES ON THE EPISODE:

What’s holding you back from feeling worthy? Cathy shares a coaching call about dealing with insecurities and your resistance to abundance. Then you’ll hear from Tricia Huffman, founder and CEO of Your Joyologist, manager of integrity to Grammy Award winning artists, mentor, and podcaster, who is back on the show to share the biggest lessons from her new book “F the Shoulds. Do the Wants.” She’ll teach you how to stop letting the shoulds dictate your life, get clarity on what you truly want, and allow in more joy today.

TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:

1. F the shoulds. Do the wants.
2. Let yourself do the things that work for you. Don’t forget to enjoy your life. You can feel joy today.
3. The direct line of intuition comes from questioning the shoulds, getting quiet and coming into yourself. Make the time to pause and ask “What do I want?”
4. Visualize your choices. Allow yourself to daydream the possibilities and try on these options, and see how your body feels. When you sit in it, you can feel the energy in your body and get clear on what your want is right now.
5. People who change the world don’t blend in. They stand out.
6. We are not our ego. We are the one self. We are the ocean itself. We are infinite. We are the whole deal.
7. Find your way into that one expansive field. It has to happen every single day. When you’re in it, the world starts to move and things will happen effortlessly.

HOSTED BY NANCY LEVIN

HERE IS HER SUMMARY ON THE EPISODE:

Do you ever feel overwhelmed or even oppressed by all the “shoulds” in your life?

You should order the salad, you should work out today, you should work late on that project, you should clean the house, you should, you should, you should.

Well, according to today’s guest—rock-and-roll roadie turned “joyologist” Tricia Huffman—all those “shoulds” are causing nothing but mayhem and misery in our lives.

Instead, we need to do a better job of getting back to ourselves and understanding what we want, what we need, and why.

When we focus on what we really want, it empowers us to finally embrace and own our true selves—not the selves we try to project to the world because we think that’s who we “should” be.

It’s a wonderful message and a brilliant way to own who we really are each and every day.

this might get uncomfortable

HOSTED BY jason wrobel + whitney lauritsen

HERE IS THEIR SUMMARY ON THE EPISODE:

Whether we all live and grow up with other people’s expectations and, by extension, their judgments. But instead of letting those “shoulds” define us, shouldn’t we just be living the life that we truly want for ourselves? It is a lot easier said than done, but it is not impossible if you have the intention and the willingness to do the work. Joining Jason Wrobel and Whitney Lauritsen to unpack this for us is Your Joyologist, Tricia Huffman, a speaker, writer, coach and mentor who is out on a mission to help people live with joy in the NOW. Tricia believes that we have the power to move beyond the “shoulds” and actually strive for our “wants” and that it’s totally cool to be doing so. This conversation challenges so many of the things we have been brought up to believe all in one sitting. Prepare to have your mind blown.

PARTY IN MY PLANTS

HOSTED BY TALIA  POLLOCK

HERE IS TALIA’S NOTES ON THE EPISODE:

My lady Tricia Huffman a.k.a. The Joyologist a.k.a. affirmation queen a.k.a. the shitty thought police (OK, enough of the a.k.a.s, we get it…) is my latest and greatest guest. The woman is more super than a superfood itself and as such, this lil’ chat was even more invigorating than my post-run heaped-with-greens smoothie. Tricia has a background as a sound engineer, has spent so much of her life on the road and pivoted her whole lifestyle to be one focused on joy, positive affirmations, cultivating career success and happiness, and staunchly askewing the word “should” and all that it represents. Her whole *fig*gin jam is to wake people up to the joys that exist RIGHT NOW in their lives. My friend, don’t let these great days perish like wilted romaine lettuce that you forget at the back of your damn fridge! Listen to find out how to fill your life with joy ASAP.

  • How, after ten days of no gluten, she woke up feeling like she could get out of bed with ease

  • The big awakening, after her father passed away, that she wanted to do more with her life

  • Starting her day by switching out the word “should” for “want,” and how that changed things

  • How the Joyologist idea took shape, moving her from sound engineer into a new role on tour

  • The lesson living with fibromyalgia has taught her: that she can’t sacrifice her health for others

  • What her daily routine looks like, and a helpful mantra: “Any minutes is more than no minutes”

  • The difficulty of asking for more support, and understanding that people can’t read your mind

don’t keep your day joB

 hosted by cathy heller

How can you let go of the should’s that have kept you stuck your whole life? Tricia Huffman, better known as Your Joyologist, is a coach, speaker, entrepreneur and podcaster who was touring as a sound engineer when she realized she could invent a new role and help successful musicians on a deeper level to claim more joy and purpose in their life. She shares how to choose what makes you come alive, stop letting other people’s judgment keep you from living your dream, and discover the key to becoming fulfilled.

TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE:

1. Give yourself a chance. Choose to live. Do what makes you come alive.
2. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.

3. Don’t outsource your life choices. Eliminate the word “should” and replace it with “want.”
4. You have to claim your worth. You have to know that you’re enough, that you’re lovable. It’s up to you.
5. Your approval is the biggest key to making you feel fulfilled.
6. A judgment can only have power over you if it’s something you believe to be true about yourself. The only judge of you is you.
7. If there’s one person who can feel something from you sharing your gifts, then that’s good enough.

positivity irl panel with sophie jaffe, aarona lee, and jenny jiles

For those who couldn’t make it to the IGNTD GLOW event, this episode will be featuring the recording of one of the most amazing panels from the event itself! This panel was all about positivity — how to bring positivity into your life and, in general, how to live your life in the most positive way possible. This panel really speaks to what it takes to both possess and embody positivity, and shares some incredibly powerful takeaways. This panel features three amazing women: Aarona Lea (the author and co-creator of The Moon Deck), Tricia Huffman (of Your Joyologist), and Jenny Jiles! These women have such powerful journeys with positivity and in this panel, they show how to be positive in your own mind (which is where it matters the most!)

The modern mamas podcast

HOSTED BY JESS GAERTNER + LAURA BRUNER

In this episode, Jess sits down with Tricia Huffman aka Your Joyologist to chat about real life.  Not just being joyful, but how to chase it, find it, and choose it, even when life doesn’t quite go your way.  We not only talk about joy, but we talk about dealing with feelings of guilt and shame, and how we have the power to feel, examine, and move forward through those feelings to grow.  This episode is for everyone, but we also tackle some specific topics like the pervasive concept of “mom guilt” that so many women encounter through the motherhood transition. Tricia is such a shining light on social media! She urges you to claim your joy and own who you are every single day via her empowering social media presence, Claim it! Podcast, youtube series, affirmation based product line, daily inspiration APP and everything she does.  She is a rock and roll roadie at heart and by first career who specializes on working with those in the public eye to keep them in integrity with who they want to be in the world and for themselves. She is also a mother to two toddler girls, Zia and Arrow.

WOMEN AGAINST NEGATIVE  TALK

WITH HOST KATIE HORWITCH

We talk about leaving a secure job to follow your passion.

By asking lots of questions, following her heart, and having a hunger to learn, Tricia went from selling shirts at the House Of Blues to literally running the show on tour for pretty much every big-name artist you’ve heard of…you name it, she’s worked with them.

As a woman working in a male-dominated field, how I always made sure to stay down-to-earth, empathetic, and thirsty for knowledge.

My absolute FAVORITE part of this interview with Tricia: where we dive in and dig deep about how to distance ourselves from our need for validation, and how to take accountability and responsibility even when we feel something is entirely someone else’s fault. Tricia knows how it feels to be resistant, and she knows what it means to OWN YOUR AWESOME. But she didn’t get there without getting real with herself and examining what was actually getting in her way.

find your awesome

HOSTED BY: KELSEY ABBOTT

IN THIS EPISODE WE DISCUSS:

Why it’s important to trademark your business name or phrase.

How to choose inspiration over jealousy.

How Tricia made the decision to own her awesome at age 15.

THOUGHT NUGGETS FROM THIS EPISODE:

“Just because I can do that and I can deliver my inspiration that way and I can deliver services that way and that could be a way to reach more people, do I actually want to? What’s the best use of my time?”

“When we’re feeling emotional pain, we do start to feel it in our body.

“If you don’t acknowledge the feelings, you’re not really getting through them.”

“It can feel like nobody believes in you, but it’s really that they love you so much they’re protecting you because they want you to be taken care of.”

“I try to take fear and use it as excitement.”

“We’re always protected.”
